National Drilling Company Improves On- and Off-Shore Communication Networks
Unique Peribit Technology Installed at NDC Sites Across Abu Dhabi and Increases Network Capacity by Eight Time
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – November 9, 2004 - The National Drilling Company (NDC), one of the largest oil-drilling contractors in the Middle East, has deployed a new Networking solution across 28 of its locations, including on- and off-shore oil wells, increasing its communication network capacity by eight times, reducing transmission costs, and enhancing communication between sites.
Peribit Networks’ unique PeriSphere architecture, implemented by leading systems integrator Bayanat-DPS, has optimised NDC’s wide area network (WAN), by identifying and eliminating repeated data patterns in network traffic and increasing performance of networked applications.
Installed at all NDC sites in Abu Dhabi, including its off-shore oil rigs, the Peribit solution has enhanced NDC’s communications infrastructure, making it more efficient, and reducing monthly transmission costs. As well as speeding up the WAN, the unique solution has also enabled policies and priorities for application traffic to be set for different users and enabled bandwidth to be assigned between users.
“Communication through our WAN was becoming slow and costly,” said Bilal Habash, network and telecommunications team leader, NDC. “Reducing the unnecessary duplicate data patterns meant we were able to increase communication between our sites, and save money.”
NDC, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), looked at offerings from several other vendors to help optimise the efficiency of their network traffic, but chose the Peribit solution because of the completeness of the Peribit Solution and the excellent local support.
“Repeated data patterns are redundant, waste valuable network resources and reduce the efficiency applications traversing the Network,” said Shane Buckley, President, International, Peribit Networks, “By implementing PeriSphere, NDC only send data across the network that they need to, and will see a significant return on their investment.”
Between 70 and 90 per cent of WAN traffic contains useless repetitive data, which wastes valuable network resources and degrades efficiency and application performance. Peribit’s PeriSphere technology, solves a number of issues, including bandwidth congestion, high latency and the redundant transmission of large files, increasing WAN capacity up to 10 times by reducing traffic by 90 per cent.
“The implementation for NDC was one of the more challenging projects for Bayanat-DPS, due to the remote locations of the sites, which were both on- and off-shore,” said Nader Al Atout, enterprise networks manager, Bayanat-DPS. “Our team of skilled system engineers have provided a robust solution, and will be on hand to offer ongoing technical support.”
